Forest Minister Investigates Tree Felling at CCF Office
Shimoga: In a recent development, Forest Minister Ishwar Khandre has issued a notice to Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) K.T. Hanumanthappa regarding the alleged felling of three large trees within the office premises on Channagiri Road. The incident has sparked concerns among the public and environmentalists.
A week ago, reports surfaced claiming that three 50-year-old Rain Trees were cut down and transported from the CCF office area. In response to these allegations, the Forest Minister has demanded a detailed explanation from Hanumanthappa within three days. The notice has been shared with the media, including Prajavani.
Hanumanthappa clarified that the trees in question were not native wild species but ornamental Rain Trees, which had reportedly sustained damage, posing a safety risk to vehicles parked nearby. He stated that the decision to remove the trees was made in accordance with established regulations and procedures. Additionally, he mentioned that a report detailing the situation has already been submitted to the Forest Minister.
As this investigation unfolds, questions regarding the management of urban forestry and the safety protocols for tree maintenance remain at the forefront of public discussion.
