Bhadravathi: Shimoga Milk Union (Shimul) has witnessed a significant increase in milk production, leading to the expansion of milk product manufacturing, including bread and buns. Milk production has risen from 6.27 lakh liters to 7.84 lakh liters daily, an increase of 1.60 lakh liters in just three and a half months. This increase is attributed to the union’s decision to purchase milk without rejection, ensuring fair prices for farmers. As a result, milk production has increased, and the quantity in milk packs has been increased by 50 ml, with a corresponding price hike of ₹2.

However, milk theft has become a concern in Bhadravati Nagar, with milk being unloaded on roads near dealer points at 3 am. This has resulted in losses for small businessmen, with some hotel owners unfairly increasing prices of coffee and tea, citing milk price hikes. The Hotel Owners Association has clarified that there has been no increase in coffee-tea rates in regis tered hotels, and the price remains fixed at ₹20. Shimul has pledged to take action against milk theft to protect the interests of farmers and consumers.
