In a major crackdown, Lokayukta officials in Shivamogga district apprehended a government doctor red-handed while allegedly accepting a ₹10,000 bribe for issuing a post-mortem report.
The accused, Dr. Gopal G Harigi, posted at Shikaripura Taluk Hospital, had reportedly demanded ₹20,000 to release the autopsy findings related to the death of Satish Manchi, the brother-in-law of the complainant’s friend.
The case surfaced after Sunil, a resident of Kappanahalli village, lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police. Acting swiftly, officials laid a trap operation and caught the doctor accepting half the demanded amount in his office on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Shivamogga Lokayukta SP Manjunath Chaudhary, with Police Inspector Gururaj leading the investigation. The trap team included Inspector Veerabasayya Kusalapur and staff members Yogesh, Manjunath, Surendra, Channesh, Devaraj, Prakash, and Adarsh.
Dr. Harigi is currently under interrogation, and further inquiry is underway.
