A sudden cloudburst on Tuesday night in Shivamogga triggered widespread concern among residents as heavy downpours inundated local streams and reservoirs. The Puradal check dam (Barehalla) within the Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary overflowed for the second time due to relentless rainfall. This dam irrigates more than 2,000 acres of farmland, benefiting villages like Purudal, Anupinakatte, Shantipura, and Hanumanthapura.

Floodwaters cut off connectivity in the villages of Muduvala, Yaduvala, Devabaalu, Tyajavalli, Konagavalli, and Haranahalli as a key bridge became submerged. The breach of Gowdana Kere lake and Seegehalli tank further exacerbated the situation, flooding farmlands and damaging crops in Yarebeesu, Koodi, and Adinakottige.

Flash floods in Shivamogga and Hosanagara taluks disrupted road and rail traffic. The Basavapura bridge, linking the two taluks, was submerged, while landslides near Suduru Gate delayed train services between Shivamogga and Sagar.

In a separate incident, Gopal, a 35-year-old fisherman, was stranded on a rock in the Tunga River after rapidly rising waters trapped him. Firefighters, alerted by locals, successfully rescued him with a boat. Another rescue operation was launched after Iqbal from Chinnikatte went missing near Muduvala Kondajji.
