Chennai: The Southern Railway (SR) has made significant changes to the route and schedule of the Dr MGR Chennai Central – Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam – Dr MGR Chennai Central weekly superfast express, extending it to Shivamogga Town via SMVT Bengaluru, Tumakuru, and Birur railway stations. These changes will take effect from Friday.
Train No 12691, departing from Dr MGR Chennai Central at 23:30 hrs, will now be rerouted and extended to Shivamogga Town via SMVT Bengaluru, Arsikere, and Birur railway stations. As part of this rerouting, stoppages at Bengaluru Cantonment, KSR Bengaluru Jn, and Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam Railway stations will be skipped.
In the opposite direction, Train No 12692, originating from Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam, will commence its journey from Shivamogga Town at 17:15 hrs. It will travel via Birur, Arsikere, and SMVT Bengaluru railway stations, skipping stoppages at Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam, KSR Bengaluru Jn, and Bengaluru Cantonment Railway stations, starting from Saturday.
According to the SR statement, the service between Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam and Bengaluru Cantonment has been canceled for both trains.
These adjustments aim to streamline travel routes and improve connectivity between Chennai Central, Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam, and Shivamogga Town, benefiting passengers commuting along this corridor.
