The Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has launched the “Shuddha Jala Abhiyana” (clean water awareness campaign) throughout Karnataka this January. The campaign aims to inform over 1.5 lakh residents on the critical need for clean water. Due to population growth and environmental decline, water scarcity has become a pressing issue, leading to widespread contamination.

Excessive fluoride affects 60% of the state’s water, while 20% contains high nitrate levels, and 30% is contaminated with harmful microorganisms. Addressing these concerns, SKDRDP introduced the “Shuddhaganga” initiative in 2009, creating 481 clean drinking water units, benefiting around 5.55 lakh people. These units supply a daily total of 22 lakh liters of clean water. To combat public awareness gaps, over 500 educational events will be conducted throughout the month, including school programs, rallies, and home visits, to engage local communities and promote healthy water consumption practices.
