Bengaluru : In response to the reported increase in Covid-19 cases in the state, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will call a high-level meeting here.

To discuss the changing situation, senior officers, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will also be present at the meeting.

It is expected that the state will soon have more cases than 100, and as the cases continue to spread quickly, the situation in the state capital is growing more concerning. In order to confirm the existence of the JN.1 variant in the state and to sequence the entire genome, authorities from Bengaluru have sent in 17 samples.

The process of genome sequencing is estimated to take 10 to 15 days, with results expected in five days. Sources also highlight that over the last 20 days, Bengaluru has reported 42 positive Covid cases, with three deaths recorded within a week. However, sources confirmed that all individuals had other critical health conditions.

Concerns among the authorities are growing due to the evolving situation, especially with the upcoming New Year and Christmas celebrations.

Karnataka Department of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday said that 20 new positive cases of Covid have been reported in the last 24 hours in the state while two persons died due to the related health issues.

According to the department, there are currently 92 patients who are actively involved. Twenty of these have been admitted to the hospital, and 72 are being kept isolated at home. There are seven in the intensive care unit. According to the health officials, the reported positivity rate is 2.47 percent, and the case fatality rate is 10%.

They reported that 808 Covid tests, including 407 RTPCR and 401 RAT tests, were performed on symptomatic individuals during the previous day.

According to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Bengaluru reported the first Covid death in recent memory on December 15. He stated, “A decision to put restrictions on Bengaluru’s New Year celebrations has not yet been made.”
