Sisters Arrested After Threatening an Elderly Man and Causing Mayhem
New Delhi: Two disruptive sisters from a residential complex in east Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave were arrested on Friday following a chaotic scene where they threatened an elderly man, barricaded themselves inside their flat for hours, and then recklessly drove their car through the premises, injuring individuals and damaging vehicles. CCTV footage captured their car striking several people, including police officers.
The suspects, Bhavya Jain, 23, and Charvi Jain, 21, previously assaulted a security guard at Anekant Apartments about a month ago. On Friday night, they were reportedly honking their car horn incessantly. When Ashok Sharma, a 70-year-old retired police officer residing in the complex, asked them to stop, they retaliated by vandalizing his flower pots. The sisters then entered his home, brandishing a knife and threatening him.
When police were summoned, the sisters had locked themselves inside their apartment for several hours. Upon emerging, they drove recklessly within the community, damaging parked cars and injuring bystanders. They struck a police vehicle and crashed through the security barrier, prompting a chase. Outside the complex, they hit a scooterist, dragging the vehicle along until the rider escaped. The police eventually apprehended the sisters at Noida Sector 20.
Injured by the incident, Pradeep Chaurasia, the complex’s electrician, described the moment, stating, “One of the sisters looked at all of us, got into the car, and began driving at high speed. My hand was injured.” Despite the chaos, some residents attempted to stop the speeding vehicle with sticks, but the sisters continued their reckless path.
The sisters live with their mother, who is undergoing cancer treatment at Dharamshila Narayana Hospital. Their father, Neeraj Jain, operates a printing press and resides in Paharganj. In September, they faced charges for wrongful confinement and assault after allegedly beating a security guard who they suspected of sharing information about them with their father.
