Mysuru: The State Government has resubmitted a proposal to the Centre in order to secure funds to holistically develop the Chamundi Hill under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) Scheme launched by the Centre. A decision in this regard was made due to the repeated landslides caused by heavy rain and development activities at Chamundi Hill.

According to the sources, the proposal was resubmitted after certain issues were addressed at the recently completed ‘Tourism and Culture Ministers Conference of the Southern Region’ in Bengaluru on October 28 and 29. The goal was to emphasise the southern states’ and Union Territories’ heritage and cultural tourism projects, skill development, and cruise tourism potential.

The issue was raised at the conclave by State Tourism Minister Anand Singh who urged why the funds have not been sanctioned to Karnataka under PRASHAD Scheme as yet.

PRASHAD is a fully-funded Central Government scheme that will provide Rs. 100 crore for temple development. The Union Ministry of Tourism established the scheme in 2014-15.
