Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO KR Nandini, who topped the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2017, inspired civil service aspirants with a powerful lecture at the IAS/KAS coaching camp organised by the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU).

Speaking at the event, Nandini stressed the value of positive thinking, goal-setting, and focused preparation. “Eliminate self-doubt. Define your goals with timelines. In today’s competitive space, self-confidence is your strongest ally,” she said.

She offered strategic insights into cracking competitive exams—emphasising conceptual clarity over rote learning, efficient time management, and consistent revision. “Understand your strengths and learning style. Don’t compare yourself to others. This journey is personal,” she advised.

Nandini also encouraged aspirants to choose the medium they’re most comfortable in—be it Kannada, English, or Hindi—highlighting that she herself had chosen Kannada as her UPSC optional subject.

B Rangegowda, Joint Director of the Social Welfare Department, echoed similar sentiments. “Fluency in English is not a measure of intelligence. What matters is your passion, persistence, and preparation,” he said, urging aspirants to dedicate two solid years to preparation.

KSOU Vice-Chancellor V Sharanappa Halse praised Nandini’s journey from a teacher’s daughter to a statewide icon for civil service hopefuls. The event saw participation from university dignitaries and faculty, who applauded the aspirants’ commitment.
