Late Thursday night, a horrific accident near Kuntoji village in Muddebihal taluk, Vijayapura district, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left two others critically injured. The tragic event occurred when a speeding Pulsar 200cc bike, driven recklessly by two young men performing stunts, veered out of control and crashed into a group of people.

The accident unfolded on the state highway between Muddebihal and Talikote during the Basaveshwar Fair, which had attracted large crowds for its energy show competitions and night drama performances. Eyewitnesses reported that the Pulsar bike, driven by Lingaraj Chowdhury, lost control while attempting a wheelie and plowed into a group of spectators. Three individuals were killed instantly, and Chowdhury, who sustained severe head injuries, died on the spot. Another victim succumbed to injuries the following morning in a Bagalkot hospital.

The victims, all from the nearby village, had come to enjoy the fair. Among those identified were Rayappa Bagewadi and Hanamantraya Kurubagaudra. The names of the other two deceased are yet to be released.

The local community is in mourning, with many shocked by the turn of events. Medical personnel, including EMT Srishaila Hugara, responded swiftly to the scene with an Arogya Kavacha Ambulance. The injured were transported to the government hospital, with two later being moved to Bagalkot, where one more person passed away. The remaining critically injured individual remains under observation.

The Muddebihal police have initiated an investigation and are calling for stricter regulations to prevent dangerous stunts on public roads, particularly during large events.
