In celebration of World Tribal Day, Joint Collector Abhishek Kumar called on the public to draw inspiration from the eco-conscious lifestyle of tribal communities. The event was held on Saturday at the Government Tribal Girls Gurukul School in Gorantla.

Addressing the gathering, Abhishek Kumar highlighted the need to safeguard indigenous languages, folk art, farming methods, and age-old customs. He stressed that preserving these cultural treasures is vital to passing them on to coming generations.

He noted that tribal people were among the earliest to resist British colonialism and played a key role in India’s freedom struggle. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that tribal development matches progress seen in other segments of society.

Abhishek further shared that tribal hostels in the district are currently being modernized, thanks to contributions from state, central, and CSR (corporate social responsibility) funds. Infrastructure including roads and basic facilities is being improved for the welfare of these communities.

Encouraging the students present, he urged them to aim high and pursue professions such as medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship, so they may inspire others. He also reminded them to take advantage of government support, including free education, meals, and clothing.

The event began with floral tributes to legendary tribal freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju and Birsa Munda. The students celebrated their roots through vibrant performances of tribal dances. The programme was graced by AP Tribal Advisory Board member Somla Naik, Puttaparthi RDO Suvarna, and other dignitaries.
