Amit Debaria, a 22-year-old from Tripura, has been arrested by the Kottanur police for stealing from luxury villas in Bengaluru. The stolen goods, valued at a whopping ₹21 lakh, include 170 grams of gold jewellery, 32 watches from various brands, $3,900, and five mobile phones¹.

What’s shocking is that Debaria’s modus operandi was to sneak into villas at night, not just to steal but also to help himself to dinner. He would eat his fill from the kitchen before making off with cash, jewellery, and other valuables. The stolen items were hidden in buildings under construction, where Debaria would often spend his nights¹.

The police were able to track Debaria down after a resident of K. Narayanpur Villa reported a theft. The homeowner had left their door open and fallen asleep, only to wake up and find their watch, mobile phone, and purse missing. CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying Debaria and recovering the stolen goods¹.

Debaria’s arrest has solved nine cases registered across different police stations in the city. His journey to becoming a thief began seven years ago when he moved to Bengaluru and took up small jobs, eventually landing a gig filling water tankers in Kottanur.
