Washington: US President Donald Trump on Friday thanked India after a road in Hyderabad was officially named “Donald Trump Avenue”, describing the gesture as an “unprecedented honour”.
The former and current US President shared an image from the unveiling ceremony on his social media platform, Truth Social, and expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India — The first US President to ever be honoured in this way. Thank you! President Donald J. Trump,” he wrote.
Road renamed in Hyderabad’s Financial District
The newly named avenue is located in Hyderabad’s Financial District at Nanakramguda, an area that houses the US diplomatic mission and several major international technology companies.
The Telangana government recently renamed the road adjoining the US Consulate as Donald Trump Avenue, describing the move as part of broader efforts to strengthen Hyderabad’s global profile and highlight the city’s growing engagement with the United States.
Officials said the avenue serves as a symbolic recognition of the close ties between Hyderabad and the US.
Plaque unveiled during commemorative event
The ceremonial plaque for Donald Trump Avenue was unveiled earlier this week in the presence of Sergio Gor and senior representatives of the Telangana government.
The event was linked to commemorative celebrations marking 250 years of American independence and drew participation from diplomatic and government officials.
The naming of the avenue has generated considerable attention both in India and abroad, particularly after Trump’s public acknowledgement of the gesture.
Part of broader urban branding initiative
The decision to rename the road is part of a larger initiative announced by the Telangana government to create internationally recognisable landmarks in Hyderabad.
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had spoken about naming key roads and public infrastructure after globally recognised personalities and institutions during an event organised by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum.
The initiative aims to enhance Hyderabad’s global identity and further position the city as an important centre for international business, diplomacy and technology.
