Tumkur: The Janaushadhi Kendras, launched in Tumkur under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), have become a lifeline for many families by significantly reducing healthcare expenses. These centres offer high-quality generic medicines at 50% to 90% lower prices than private pharmacies, benefiting especially the poor and marginalised communities.
Locals have praised the initiative for helping them manage chronic health conditions without the burden of high costs.
One beneficiary shared, “I have been dealing with a heart condition for four years. Earlier, I spent nearly ₹6,000 annually on medicines. Now, I get the same prescriptions for just ₹1,000 at the Janaushadhi Kendra.”
Another resident, Pasha, a frequent visitor to the centre, said the scheme has been a major relief. Similarly, Syed Khan explained how his monthly medicine bill dropped from ₹700 to ₹300 thanks to the Kendra.
These testimonials reflect the broader success of the PMBJP, which now has over 15,000 Kendras operating across every district in India. The scheme not only provides affordable and quality medicines but also promotes self-employment by enabling people to run these centres.
By ensuring that citizens don’t have to choose between health and affordability, the Janaushadhi Kendras are fulfilling their mission of accessible healthcare for all.
