Tumkur: A special Lokayukta court has sentenced R. Subrahmanya, a former Joint Director of the Social Welfare Department in Tumkur, to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2.32 crore for illegally acquiring property.
The court found Subrahmanya guilty following a lengthy trial, which stemmed from a 2016 raid on his home and office by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). During the raid, investigators uncovered ₹1.21 crore worth of property that Subrahmanya and his family had acquired unlawfully.
The court determined that Subrahmanya had illegally acquired ₹1.16 crore worth of property beyond his declared income and ordered him to pay a fine of double that amount. The Lokayukta prosecution team, led by advocate N.B. Basavaraju, successfully argued the case.
Subrahmanya was arrested and sent to jail following the verdict. He was previously working in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms.
