The North Karnataka Citizens Development Association has urged the authorities to build another airport in the Tumkur-Shira region to alleviate pressure on the Kempegowda International Airport. Association president Mahantesh Charantimath emphasized the need for a new airport, citing the 120 km gap between Bengaluru and Mysore airports.
Charantimath argued that constructing an airport in the Tumkur area would benefit people from North Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, and Central Karnataka. He highlighted the advantages of reduced land acquisition costs, faster completion, and financial benefits for farmers and agricultural workers, as well as job creation.
The association’s demand comes amid discussions of building another international airport in Mysore. However, Charantimath believes that the Tumkur-Shira region is a more suitable location for a new airport, given its strategic position and potential benefits.
