Tumakuru Railway Station is on the verge of a major transformation, with South Western Railway (SWR) announcing a ₹74.98 crore redevelopment project. Aimed at modernizing the station to meet growing passenger demand and ensure long-term capacity, the project will create a world-class facility to serve the region’s transportation needs for the next fifty years.

According to a senior SWR official, the station’s redevelopment underscores a commitment to enhancing infrastructure for better passenger comfort and safety. The new design will incorporate classical architectural elements inspired by Siddaganga Mutt, alongside modern amenities. A four-story (G+4) building will house spacious concourses, booking counters, landscaped areas, and separate waiting zones for general, upper-class, and female passengers. A VIP lounge is also planned.

A 12-meter-wide foot overbridge (FOB) will link the new building to all platforms, facilitating smooth passenger movement with elevators, escalators, and staircases. Accessibility features for Divyangjan will be prioritized with inclusive designs.

In addition to platform and track upgrades, a new track and additional platform will be introduced, along with an extended existing track. An extra FOB will enhance safety, reducing trespassing and improving connectivity for surrounding residents.

Once completed, the station will not only improve passenger experiences but also boost regional development by improving connectivity, freight handling, and supporting local businesses. With over 17,000 daily passengers, Tumakuru’s station is becoming a critical hub in Karnataka’s rail network.
