In a major relief to Anganwadi workers, the Karnataka government has decided to exempt them from election duties, fulfilling a long-standing demand by various workers’ unions and associations.
Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar announced the move after consultations with Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, citing the upcoming launch of pre-primary (Montessori) classes in Anganwadi centres from October.
Though the official notification is awaited, the minister confirmed that the decision aims to ease the workload on Anganwadi staff as they gear up for the academic rollout.
This step is expected to improve focus on early childhood education and support worker well-being.
