Udupi: In a shocking incident in Janata Colony, Belapu village under Kapu taluk, an attempted child abduction by two burqa-clad women was thwarted by a family member present in the house.
Incident details
According to reports, the incident occurred when two women wearing burqas arrived at the residence of Mohammadali under the pretext of using the toilet. One of the women stayed at the entrance while the other entered the house.
Inside the house, the woman allegedly attempted to abduct a child — the son of Mohammadali’s younger brother — who was asleep in a cradle. The attempt was resisted by Taburis, a family member who was present in the home at the time.
As Taburis confronted the woman, the intruders reportedly pushed her aside. In the struggle, the child was dropped to the floor, but the abduction was ultimately unsuccessful as the women fled the scene immediately after.
Injuries and police response
Taburis sustained injuries during the scuffle. The child was reported to be safe despite the fall, though the family was deeply shaken by the incident.
The child’s mother, Seema, has since lodged a complaint at the Shirva police station. A case has been registered, and the police have launched an investigation into the attempted abduction.
Law enforcement officials are said to be reviewing local CCTV footage and gathering witness accounts to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Community concern
The incident has raised concerns among residents of Belapu and nearby areas. Locals have urged the authorities to enhance surveillance and patrolling in residential neighbourhoods and to educate families about safety precautionswhen dealing with unknown visitors.
Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or strangers in their locality.
