Udupi: A grand one-day program titled “Bannanje 90 Udupi Namana” will be held on August 3 from 8 am to 8 pm at the new Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College, to pay tribute to the legendary Sanskrit scholar Vidyavachaspati Bannanje Govindacharya.

Announcing the event at a press conference, general convener Raviraj H.P. said the program is being organized in collaboration with Bannanje Govindacharya Pratishthan, Bengaluru, Paryaya Puttige Math, and MGM College.

The day will begin with prayers at Bannanje’s ancestral home in Moodubettu at 8 am, followed by a portrait procession from Adi Udupi School—where he studied—to MGM College. Prof. K.P. Rao will flag off the event.

Highlights include:

  • A Yakshagana performance based on Bannanje’s works at 9:20 am

  • Formal inauguration by Justice Vedavyasacharya Sreeshananda at 10 am

  • A photo and memorabilia exhibition opened by Sandhya Pai, Managing Editor, Taranga

  • The event will be presided over by senior writer Vaidehi

  • At the closing ceremony (4 pm), scholar Vidyabhushan will preside and later present a musical tribute (Nada Lahari) at 5:30 pm featuring Acharya’s compositions

  • A Shubh Yatra to mark the event will begin on August 2 at 4:30 pm from Rajangana, blessed by Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji.

    Committee members Udupi Vishwanath Shenoy, Ranga Pai, Prof. Sadashiva Rao, and Janardhan Kodavoor were present during the briefing.
