The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a district-wide protest across all gram panchayats and urban local bodies (ULBs) in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on June 23, voicing strong opposition over five key issues, including the contentious Form 9 and 11 row.
Dakshina Kannada MP and State BJP Secretary Capt. Brijesh Chowta addressed the media, stating that the current system has made it extremely difficult for citizens to construct homes. “People are being forced to run from pillar to post for building plan approvals. The process needs urgent simplification,” he emphasized.
He also criticized the rejection of Akrama-Sakrama land regularisation applications, allegedly without proper consultation with the designated samithis or the applicants. “Officials have acted unilaterally, which is deeply anti-farmer. If not for the farmers, kumki lands would’ve been grabbed by the land mafia,” Chowta warned, demanding a fair review of all pending applications.
Further, he accused the Congress-led state government of failing to sanction Ashraya housing schemes for the poor for the past two years. “During the BJP’s rule, each gram panchayat received approvals for 50 to 100 homes. We now demand at least 100 houses per panchayat,” he said.
Raising another grievance, he pointed out that many senior citizens are being denied old age pensions under the pretext of income limits. “This is a direct attack on social security. The government is cutting benefits to cover up its financial mismanagement,” he alleged.
The BJP will highlight these concerns in front of 223 gram panchayats, one city corporation, eight town panchayats, three town municipal councils, and two city municipal councils. Elected representatives, BJP leaders, and the public are expected to participate.
