Udupi, Karnataka – Panic gripped Vidyodaya Public School in Udupi on Monday after the school received a bomb threat via email, prompting authorities to evacuate all students and staff immediately.
Acting swiftly, the Udupi police launched a full-scale search operation. Teams from the bomb disposal squad, anti-sabotage unit, and canine detection wing were deployed to thoroughly inspect the school campus.
After an exhaustive search, police confirmed that no explosive materials or suspicious objects were found on the premises. The area was declared safe, and control was formally handed back to the school management.
Officials have since labeled the threat as a hoax, but an investigation is now underway to trace the origin of the email. Cybercrime experts are working to identify the sender and motive behind the false alarm.
The incident echoes a similar episode earlier this year in Erode, Tamil Nadu, where two schools received email threats about planted bombs. That case also turned out to be a hoax after intensive police searches.
Authorities have expressed serious concern over the recurrence of such threats to educational institutions, which not only cause widespread panic but also disrupt the academic environment.
Parents and local residents have called for stricter cyber monitoring and swift action against those who misuse digital platforms to spread fear.
