Udupi: A serious mishap was narrowly avoided when a car skidded and overturned at a sharp curve on the AgumbeGhat stretch due to continuous heavy rainfall. The incident occurred at the 6th hairpin bend as the vehicle was heading from Agumbe towards Udupi.
The vehicle, which was navigating the slippery ghat section, lost control in the downpour. The driver, unable to manage the curve on the rain-drenched road, lost grip of the steering, resulting in the car flipping over.
Inside the vehicle were a mother and her child, who found themselves trapped after the car overturned. Alert locals, witnessing the accident, quickly rushed to the spot and managed to rescue both individuals safely. Their swift response prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.
The accident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Hebri police station, and officers from the department arrived on-site shortly after receiving the report. They assessed the situation and facilitated traffic flow in the area, which had slowed due to the overturned vehicle and ongoing rainfall.
Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, and thanks to the prompt actions of bystanders, a major disaster was avoided. The incident highlights the risks of travelling through ghat roads during monsoon conditions and the importance of driving cautiously on slippery, winding roads.
Motorists are advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel through hilly regions during extreme weather conditions.
