Udupi, Karnataka: The regional film industry was left in shock on Saturday morning following the sudden demise of acclaimed cinematographer and disc jockey D.J. Mervin, aged 35. The tragic incident occurred near Mooluru, close to Kaup, when the car he was travelling in overturned during an evasive manoeuvre to avoid a stray dog.

Accident details

According to police sources, Mervin was travelling from Udupi to Mangaluru with video editor Prajwal Suvarna and associates Prasad and Vignesh. The accident took place when the driver of the vehicle swerved abruptly to avoid hitting a stray dog, resulting in the loss of control and the car overturning.

Local first responders, including ambulance drivers Jalaluddin, Hameed Uchila, and K.M. Siraj Anwar, reached the site swiftly, along with local police. The injured were immediately shifted to a private hospital in Udupi. Tragically, Mervin succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the medical facility.

The other passengers – Prajwal Suvarna, Prasad, and Vignesh – sustained minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.
