Udupi: As Ganesh Chaturthi festivities sweep across the coastal region, Abharan Jewellers in Udupi has added a unique artistic touch with the unveiling of a towering coconut shell Ganesha idol. The installation, called ‘Gerate Ganesha,’ was revealed at the jewellery showroom’s diamond section during the Gauri festival.
A towering masterpiece
The 9-foot-tall idol has been meticulously crafted using more than 500 coconut shells by artists Venky Palimar, Srinath Manipal and Ravi Hirebettu. Its intricate design and cultural detailing have captivated visitors, making it a major festive attraction.
Mahesh Kamath, owner of Abharan Jewellers, inaugurated the display, describing it as a tribute to both tradition and creativity.
Open for public viewing
The spectacular installation will be open to the public for 10 days, giving devotees and art enthusiasts an opportunity to admire the craftsmanship up close. The blend of natural elements and artistic skill has made the idol a highlight of the festive season in Udupi.
Ceremony and attendees
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Ajith Nayak, Saleem, Yogish, Raghavendra Shettigar, and marketing head Dinesh Shettigar, among others. The event was compered by Raghavendra Nayak.
