As pre-monsoon rains hit Udupi, worries have emerged at the Santhekatte underpass construction site due to water erosion. The initial rainfall has inundated the area with sludge, worsening conditions at the site.
Lack of proper drainage infrastructure has allowed rainwater to directly impact the underpass area, sparking fears among locals of potential structural instability. A widely circulated photograph capturing the scene, featuring a makeshift “waterfall,” has prompted sarcastic remarks on social media, with some humorously dubbing it Udupi’s newest picnic spot.
Criticism has been directed at the former MP of Udupi–Chikkamagaluru, reflecting public frustration over perceived oversight and precautionary lapses.
The absence of adequate gutter facilities has compounded the situation, raising concerns about potential collapses if heavy rainfall persists. Immediate action is necessary to address drainage issues and reinforce safety measures, ensuring the stability of the underpass construction site.
