Udupi – The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkar Vada) staged a coordinated protest in front of all seven taluk offices across Udupi district on Friday, demanding immediate action on long-pending applications for land and housing rights for Dalit families.
At the Udupi Taluk Office, hundreds of agitators gathered in large numbers, voicing their frustration over what they called years of negligence and injustice by the state government. Sundar Master, the state coordinator of Dasams, led the protest and delivered a scathing address, accusing the government of betraying the Dalit community.
“Though there are lakhs of acres of government land available, Dalits are being systematically denied access,” he alleged. “Even when applications are filed through so-called illegal procedures, officials outright reject them under political pressure or due to vested interests.”
Sundar Master pointed out that thousands of Dalit applications remain unresolved in Udupi district alone. “The system is rigged against us,” he said. “Despite following the procedures, our people are being denied their rightful land.”
He warned that if the government does not act swiftly, the agitation will escalate. “We will give a few days. If there’s no response, we will launch an indefinite strike, confront the district’s in-charge minister, and wave black flags in protest,” he declared.
The protesters emphasized they are fed up with false assurances. “Our patience has run out,” they thundered, demanding justice and dignity without delay.
