Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that Lord Krishna’s guidance, Bharat Mata’s blessings, and the grace of revered gurus are essential for India to overcome present challenges.

She was addressing devotees after unveiling a newly crafted wooden yali—a traditional lion-like figure—along the circumambulatory path at Sri Krishna Matha during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mandalotsava hosted by Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha. Earlier, she inaugurated the Vishwa Vidyapeetha for women and spoke at Rajangana hall.

Sitharaman said the country continues to face challenges and wished the Prime Minister strength to meet them. She urged citizens to hold Bharat Mata in their hearts and offer daily prayers for the nation’s progress, especially for the youth’s welfare. Serving the nation, she added, is akin to serving God and requires unity among all.

She praised Paryaya Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji’s global efforts to spread Krishna’s message, highlighting the Koti Gita Lekhana Yajna, which inspires devotees to handwrite Bhagavad Gita verses. Recalling the Ashta Mathas’ traditions of Bala Krishna Seva and Anna Brahma Seva, she called Udupi a sacred land where thousands are fed daily.

On the occasion, Swamiji conferred the title ‘Bharat Lakshmi’ on Sitharaman, hoping her leadership will strengthen India’s economy. Sitharaman reflected on her earlier visit decades ago, when a small Krishna idol given by Adamaru seer Sri Vishwapriya Thirtha brought blessings during personal hardship.
