Udupi: In a targeted crackdown on narcotics, Udupi police raided Downtown Lodge in Dasharathnagar, Manipal, and apprehended three individuals for illegal possession of drugs.
The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Azharuddin, also known as Manchakal Azharuddin from Kaup, Rajesh Prakash Jadhav from Pune, and Nazil, also called Ashif, hailing from Malpe. The trio was found occupying Room No. 106 at the lodge, where the raid took place.
Based on a reliable tip-off, authorities conducted the operation and discovered a stash of narcotic substances. The police seized 13.70 grams of MDMA valued at ₹40,000 and 225 grams of cannabis (ganja) estimated at ₹10,500. Alongside the drugs, officers recovered 15 small plastic pouches, 5 syringes, three 5 ml bottles of sterile water, and several mobile phones.
The materials indicate possible preparation for distribution, raising concerns about a broader network. Officials have registered a case at the Manipal Police Station and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in the drug trade.
This bust underscores the police’s ongoing commitment to combating drug circulation in student hubs like Manipal, which is known for its high population of youth and educational institutions. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
