A 31-year-old nurse has lodged a police complaint against a man accused of defrauding her with a false promise of securing a government job. Revathi, employed at a private hospital, claimed that she was deceived by Sachin, a resident of Padubidri, who she met when he admitted his mother for treatment.

During the hospital stay, Sachin allegedly gained Revathi’s trust and assured her he could help her obtain a government position. He cited the need to make payments to high-ranking officials and, between April 11 and May 20, 2024, reportedly collected a total of ₹1.65 lakh from her in instalments.

In addition to the cash, Revathi stated that Sachin also took her original documents—including her PAN card, Aadhaar card, caste and income certificates, 10th and 12th-grade mark sheets, and nursing qualification documents—promising that they were needed to process the job placement.

Months later, with no job offer in sight and none of her documents or money returned, Revathi approached the police. Based on her complaint, the Udupi Town Police have registered a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 417 (cheating), and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.

Investigations are currently underway to locate Sachin and recover the funds and documents. Authorities are also urging job seekers to remain cautious and verify credentials before trusting third-party offers.
