Udupi: The body of Suresh Kharvi, the last missing fisherman in the tragic Gangolli boat accident, was recovered on Thursday morning near Kodi Seewak seashore. This brings the total number of confirmed casualties to three.
The incident occurred on July 15, when the gillnet boat ‘Sri Hakremath Yaksheshwari’ capsized shortly after leaving Gangolli port due to rough sea conditions and strong waves. Out of the four fishermen aboard, one managed to swim to safety, while the others — Jagannath Kharvi, Lohit Kharvi, and Suresh Kharvi — were reported missing.
A massive search operation was launched by coastal security forces and local volunteers. On Wednesday morning, Lohit Kharvi’s body was discovered near the Kodi Lighthouse, followed by Jagannath Kharvi’s body later that evening in Halealive.
Despite no signs of Suresh Kharvi by nightfall, the search continued overnight and finally concluded Thursday morning with the discovery of his remains.
The fishing community in Gangolli and surrounding coastal villages has been left devastated by the tragedy. Authorities have urged local fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea during adverse weather and to strictly follow safety protocols.
