Udupi: The Lokayukta police on Wednesday arrested Panchayat Development Officer Umashankar and second division assistant G. Shekar of Gangolli Gram Panchayat, Udupi district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹22,000 to issue Form 9 and Form 11 for non-agricultural land.

According to a press release, the complainant had submitted an application to the panchayat for the issuance of the required forms. However, Umashankar and Shekar demanded ₹27,000 to process the documents.

The complainant then approached the Lokayukta police in Udupi, who organized a trap. The officials were caught red-handed accepting ₹22,000. The operation was led by In-charge Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjunath and Police Inspectors A. Amanullah and K.N. Chandrashekar.

Further investigations are underway.
