Udupi: In view of the persistent heavy rainfall lashing various parts of Udupi district over the past few days, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools on Wednesday, July 17.
As a safety precaution, Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidya Kumari has issued an official directive suspending classes for all Anganwadi centres, and government, aided, and private primary and high schools across the district for the day. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the welfare and safety of school-going children amid the worsening weather conditions.
With the rain showing no signs of slowing down and several low-lying areas already experiencing waterlogging, authorities are on alert to avoid any untoward incidents involving students commuting in such conditions.
However, the announcement applies only to school-level institutions. Colleges have not been included in the order. All undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and engineering colleges will continue to function as usual on July 17. Students pursuing higher education are expected to attend classes unless otherwise informed by their respective institutions.
The district administration is closely monitoring the rain situation. Emergency services have been kept on standby, and control rooms remain active to respond to any flood-related incidents. Parents have been urged to stay informed through official channels and avoid sending children out unnecessarily.
This proactive step is aimed at ensuring student safety and preventing travel-related risks during intense monsoon spells.
