Udupi: A civet cat, left wounded after a brutal attack by stray dogs, was saved from a critical situation on Wednesday thanks to the swift action of social worker Nityananda Olkadu.

The distressed animal, after sustaining serious injuries, managed to flee from the attacking dogs and took shelter amidst thick bushes to protect itself.

Local residents, who noticed the wounded civet, immediately informed Olkadu about the incident. Without wasting time, Olkadu, along with the help of the villagers, cautiously rescued the frightened animal from its hiding spot.

The civet was then transported to Dr. Sandeep Shetty, a veterinarian, where it underwent the required medical treatment. The veterinary team ensured the animal received proper care and attention for its recovery.

Following the initial treatment, the rescued civet was handed over to officials from the Udupi Forest Department, who will now oversee its further recovery, rehabilitation, and eventual release into its natural habitat.

This rescue has drawn praise from the locals and animal lovers, highlighting the importance of community participation in wildlife protection and welfare.
