Udupi– Jyothi Krishna Hebbar officially took over as the new president of the Udupi District Mahila Congress at an induction ceremony held on July 4 at the Sri Narayana Guru Auditorium, Bannanje.
In her address, Sowmya Reddy, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee, emphasized the Congress party’s commitment to women empowerment. “We must build an organisational structure that stands as a model for the nation,” she stated. She urged all party workers to promote the government’s guarantee schemes by reaching out door-to-door. Highlighting the importance of unity, she added, “Only collective effort brings success. Unlike the BJP, which promotes division, Congress stands for inclusive progress.”
MLC Manjunath Bhandary echoed the sentiment, saying the Mahila Congress needs to be strengthened to ensure the party’s continued success in governance.
Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake noted that the Congress has always aimed to support women financially and uphold values of secularism and socialism, key to societal well-being.
Geetha Wagle, the outgoing district president, welcomed the attendees. The event was smoothly compered by Satish Kodavoor and Sucharita Kaup.
Several dignitaries and senior leaders were present, including former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Veronica Cornelio, Dinakar Heroor, and other prominent party members from the region.
