A youth in Udupi has been booked for allegedly kidnapping a 20-year-old engineering student, following a complaint by her father, Godwin Devdas (53). The case, filed on March 20 at Udupi Town Police Station, accuses Akram Mohammed of abducting the woman while she was walking to her aunt’s house after getting off her college bus.

A bus driver, who reportedly witnessed the incident, informed Devdas, who also alleged that Mohammed had previously harassed his daughter when she was a minor. He claimed the act was revenge-driven and that Mohammed had been blackmailing his daughter for years using intimate photos.

However, police revealed that the woman had voluntarily chosen to live with Mohammed, even showing Devdas a video as proof. Dissatisfied, he has filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, demanding his daughter’s production. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 4.

Meanwhile, Mohammed has applied for marriage registration under the Special Marriage Act and sought anticipatory bail. His plea will be heard on April 2. The case remains legally complex, with both parties presenting conflicting narratives.
