Udupi: In a swift and coordinated operation, Manipal police have cracked a kidnapping case, rescuing the victim and arresting eight individuals from Telangana allegedly involved in the crime.

The incident took place on March 31 at around 12:15 pm in Manipal. According to the complaint filed by Ram Madivala, a resident of Dasaramakki in Kundapur, he had brought his brother Lakshman to a hospital for treatment when the incident occurred.

Daylight abduction outside hospital

As per the complaint, Ram and his brothers, Rajesh and Sudheer, were at a canteen outside the hospital when a group of 7–8 individuals arrived in a black car without a number plate.

The group allegedly targeted Rajesh Madivala. Though Rajesh attempted to flee, he was overpowered and forcibly abducted by the assailants. The kidnappers then fled the scene towards Hiriyadka, triggering panic among family members.

Business dispute angle under probe

The complainant identified the accused as Mallareddy, Tulaja, Narasinga, Hussain, Shankar, Nagesh, Parameshwar, and Vijay. According to him, the accused were known to the family and had previously visited their residence in connection with a business matter linked to Telangana.

Police suspect that the abduction may be related to a business dispute, though the exact motive is still under investigation. Officials are examining the background of the dispute and the nature of interactions between the two parties.

Special investigation team tracks accused

Following the registration of the case, a special investigation team was constituted under the leadership of Mahesh Prasad, Inspector of Manipal police station.

The team included Thimmesh B N and Sudarshan Doddmani, along with personnel from the Udupi cyber police station and other units.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team traced the suspects to Telangana. In a well-coordinated interstate operation led by PSI Sudarshan, police conducted a late-night raid in Govindapalli in Jagitial district.

Late-night raid leads to arrests

At approximately 3:30 am on April 9, the police team successfully apprehended all eight accused from a lodge in the area. The operation was executed swiftly to prevent any attempt by the suspects to flee.

Officials described the operation as a result of meticulous planning and coordination between different police units.

Victim rescued, vehicles seized

The police safely rescued Rajesh, who had been held by the accused. Authorities confirmed that he is out of danger.

During the operation, police also seized the vehicles used in the crime, including a Kia Carens bearing registration number TG 05 C 1716 and a Mahindra Thar that was being operated without a number plate.

Investigation continues

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the kidnapping and to uncover any additional links or accomplices.

Authorities are also verifying the sequence of events and gathering more evidence to strengthen the case for prosecution.
