Udupi: Train services on the Konkan Railway route are set to face temporary disruption following demolition work of a railway overbridge between Parel railway station and Currey Road railway station in the CSMT–Kalyan Junction section in Mumbai, according to an official release issued on April 4, 2026.
The block is expected to impact several long-distance and semi-high-speed trains connecting coastal Karnataka with Mumbai, causing partial cancellations, short terminations, and delays.
Changes to Mangaluru–Mumbai services
The Mangaluru–Mumbai CSMT Express departing from Mangaluru Junction will be partially curtailed on April 4. Instead of reaching its final destination at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the train will terminate at Thane railway station.
Passengers travelling to Mumbai CSMT are advised to make alternate arrangements from Thane, as services beyond this point will not be available for the day.
Impact on Madgaon–Mumbai trains
Similarly, prominent trains operating between Goa and Mumbai will also be affected. The Jan Shatabdi Express and Tejas Express will terminate at Panvel railway station instead of Mumbai CSMT on April 4.
For return journeys scheduled on April 5, both trains will originate from Panvel instead of Mumbai, leading to changes in boarding points for passengers.
Delay in Vande Bharat Express
The Mumbai–Madgaon Vande Bharat Express will also experience a slight delay. On April 5, the train will depart 15 minutes later than its scheduled time, starting at 5:40 am from Mumbai CSMT.
Though the delay is minimal, passengers are advised to check updated timings before departure.
Additional changes expected
Railway authorities have indicated that several other trains passing through the affected section may witness temporary changes in timings, stoppages, or routes. These adjustments are being made to facilitate the safe demolition of the overbridge and ensure minimal disruption to overall rail traffic.
Passengers are encouraged to stay updated through official railway announcements and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
Reason for disruption
The disruption is part of infrastructure development work involving the demolition of an old railway overbridge in Mumbai’s busy suburban section. Such works are typically carried out with traffic blocks to ensure safety and efficiency.
While the temporary inconvenience may affect travellers, authorities have emphasised that the work is essential for long-term improvements in railway infrastructure.
Conclusion
The planned disruption on the Konkan Railway route highlights the impact of infrastructure upgrades on train operations. Passengers travelling between coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Mumbai over the weekend are advised to check schedules in advance and make necessary arrangements. Railway officials have assured that normal services will resume once the demolition work is completed.
