Kundapur: In a tragic incident, a mentally challenged woman, Pragati Shetty (32), passed away at a hospital on Saturday after spending four days with the decomposing body of her mother, Jayanti Shetty (62).
Jayanti Shetty, who was reportedly suffering from an illness, is suspected to have died at their residence in Dasanahadi, Kundapur Taluk, 3-4 days ago. The incident came to light after locals noticed a foul odour emanating from the house.
Upon investigation, they alerted the Kundapur police who arrived at the scene and forced entry into the residence. They found Pragati Shetty in a severely weakened state and immediately provided first aid. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to the trauma on Saturday.
The cause of Jayanti Shetty’s death is still under investigation by the police. The bodies of both mother and daughter have been handed over to their relatives after completing necessary formalities.
