In a tragic incident on Thursday evening, a laborer was washed away in an overflowing stream in Cheerolli, Nellikatte, Nadpalu village due to heavy rains. The victim, identified as Anand (45) from Tumkur, was attempting to cross a tributary of the Sitanadi River to reach his workplace. Lacking a footbridge, he relied on a rope, which unfortunately broke, leading to the accident.

Anand belonged to a family of agricultural laborers who had been working on a plantation owned by Manorama Hegde in Nadpalu for several years. Despite their long-standing presence, no infrastructure, including a footbridge, has been provided to facilitate safe crossing of the stream.

Sub-inspector Mahesh TM of the Hebri Police visited the site and has registered a case. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
