Udupi: Five houses in Udupi district suffered damage following lightning strikes on October 19 and trees falling on October 20, authorities said.

Lightning causes damage to three houses

According to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, lightning struck during the night of October 19, damaging the homes of Shantarama Kotiyan at Padu village, Sharada at Amparu village, and Girija Devadiga at Maravanthe village.

The estimated loss to these houses has been assessed at approximately ₹1.27 lakh.

Fallen trees add to the damage

On October 20, falling trees caused damage to two more houses in the district. The DC office confirmed that local authorities are evaluating the extent of the losses and coordinating necessary relief measures for the affected families.

Residents have been urged to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions and report any emergencies to local authorities promptly.

The administration is also advising villagers to avoid staying under tall trees during thunderstorms and to secure loose structures that may be vulnerable to strong winds and lightning strikes
