A suo-motu case has been registered against Manju Kola, a fishermen’s community leader, at Malpe police station for allegedly delivering an incendiary speech during a protest in Malpe.
During his address, Kola referenced a past incident in Gangolli, cautioning authorities against repeating it. He recounted how 10,000 fishermen had united to pressure the Superintendent of Police into securing the release of an arrested fisherman.
Kola further demanded that the charges against the arrested individuals be altered by March 25, warning that failure to comply could result in a similar mass protest.
Additionally, he insisted on the release of four women detainees, threatening to block the Gangolli-Mangaluru highway if their demands were ignored. His remarks, seen as a potential trigger for unrest, led the Malpe police to initiate legal action against him.
