In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a man from Paduvari village in Byndoor cruelly tied his pet dog to the rear of his motorcycle with a chain and dragged it nearly 2 kilometres along National Highway 66 on Saturday evening. This heartless act has provoked widespread condemnation from the community.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the man dragging the injured dog from Byndoor town along the highway. When confronted by concerned bystanders, he arrogantly replied, “It’s my dog, who are you to question me?” As the crowd grew, his callousness became more evident.

The dog suffered severe leg injuries and bled profusely, leaving a trail of blood on the road. Witnesses were horrified by the brutality, and the incident quickly gained attention on social media, where users strongly condemned the man’s barbaric behaviour and demanded immediate legal action.

People across Udupi district expressed shame that such cruelty occurred in an area known for its compassion and awareness. Citizens have urged the authorities to ensure strict punishment for the offender and implement measures to prevent similar acts in the future.

Following public outcry, a suo moto complaint has been registered at the Byndoor police station, initiating an official investigation.
