Udupi: City police have apprehended an individual for illegally selling liquor in a public space.

The arrested person has been identified as Shambhulinga Madiwala, 37, a resident of Ranebennur in Haveri district. Acting on specific intelligence, law enforcement officials conducted a raid near Asha Bar, located close to the old KSRTC bus stand in Moodanidambur, on Wednesday.

During the operation, police discovered that Shambhulinga was selling liquor without any valid license, using the public location to carry out the unauthorized activity for personal financial gain.

Following his arrest, authorities confiscated a variety of liquor sachets estimated to be worth ₹2,600, along with ₹3,960 in cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal sale.

A case has been officially registered at the Udupi City Police Station, and the accused has been taken into custody. He will be produced before the magistrate as part of the ongoing legal process.

Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal liquor sales and maintaining public order in high-traffic areas of the city.
