Udupi: In a significant breakthrough, the Manipal police have arrested an accused who had been absconding for the past 16 years without appearing before court in connection with a case registered at the Manipal police station.

The accused has been identified as Rajesh Kumar, who was traced and taken into custody on September 7 at Ittamadu, Banashankari, Bengaluru. Police confirmed that he had consistently evaded trial proceedings for over a decade and a half.

Arrest operation

The arrest was carried out under the guidance of Inspector Mahesh Prasad, with the operation being led by Sub-Inspector Akshaya Kumari of Manipal police station.

A special team comprising warrant staff members Rajesh and Manjunath Havanaje successfully tracked the absconding accused and apprehended him in Bengaluru. He was subsequently produced before the judicial authorities.

Officials stated that such absconding cases not only delay justice but also burden courts with long-pending files. The successful arrest reflects the renewed emphasis on tracing absconding accused and ensuring their appearance before the law.
