Kapu: A fisherman who had gone missing after accidentally falling into the sea from a fishing boat has been found dead, bringing a tragic end to a two-day search. The body was recovered on the evening of January 19 from the Papanashini stream at Padukere in Udyavara village, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Manjunath (61), a resident of Madhuvana in Kotatattu. He had gone out to sea for fishing on January 17 along with other fishermen. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on January 18 when the fishing boat was returning towards Malpe harbour.
Fell into sea while boat was returning
Sources said that Manjunath accidentally fell into the sea during the return journey. The exact circumstances under which he fell overboard are not yet clear. Fellow fishermen on the boat reportedly searched for him immediately after noticing that he was missing, but were unable to locate him.
Following the incident, information was passed on to the authorities, and a search operation was initiated. Despite efforts by fellow fishermen and officials, Manjunath could not be traced at sea.
