Udupi: Karkala Block Congress President Shubhada Rao has come down heavily on MLA Sunil Kumar, demanding his resignation over what she termed an act of “treason” involving the Parashurama Murthy statue controversy.
Addressing the media in Udupi, Shubhada Rao stated, “I’m not a metallurgy expert, but when I commented earlier on the statue’s composition, I was questioned. Now, can the same people explain why a bronze statue turned out to be fiber instead? Is it not a betrayal of the people’s trust?”
She accused the MLA of misleading the public and failing in his duty by allowing such a significant lapse. “You claimed it would be bronze. The people believed you. Now officials are being blamed for your failure—is that justice?” she asked.
Calling the act a serious breach of accountability, Rao demanded that MLA Sunil Kumar resign immediately, owning up to the moral and political failure. She challenged the BJP to stop shifting blame and respond with transparency.
“The public placed their faith in you. Now you’ve handed them betrayal disguised as devotion,” she said, referring to the religious and cultural sensitivity attached to the statue.
Her fiery comments have intensified the political heat in Karkala, with opposition leaders rallying behind her call for accountability.
