Heavy monsoon showers relentlessly battered the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi on Wednesday, with Handadi GP in Brahmavar, Udupi, recording the state’s highest rainfall at 271 mm, as per KSNDMC.

Other high rainfall points in Brahmavar taluk included Varamballi (249 mm), Paduvari (246 mm), Havanje (241.5 mm), Haradi (233.5 mm), and Cherkadi (229.5 mm). In DK, Neermarga topped with 157 mm. Both districts remain under Orange Alert till Thursday, according to the IMD.

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Ravichandra Naik confirmed widespread rainfall across city limits, causing distress and infrastructure damage in pockets. In response, the MCC has rolled out monsoon preparedness strategies, appointing ward-wise incident commanders tasked with swift emergency response during the rainy season.

KPCC Working President & MLC Manjunath Bhandary noted that while life was disrupted, no major disasters were reported. He assured that surveys of affected areas are ongoing and that he’s coordinating closely with district officials, disaster teams, and CM Siddaramaiah to monitor and manage the evolving situation.
