New Udupi DC Vows Crackdown on Illegal Sand Mining
Udupi: Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Udupi, Swaroop T.K., has assured that firm legal action will be taken against those engaged in unauthorized sand mining across the district.
Addressing media personnel at a press conference held at the District Collectorate Hall, the DC emphasized his commitment to delivering efficient and transparent administration to the people. He acknowledged the valuable guidance and information provided by outgoing Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari, which will aid in a smooth transition.
Swaroop T.K. expressed confidence in handling administrative responsibilities based on his prior experience and support from senior officials. He stressed that all decisions would be made strictly within legal boundaries.
The Deputy Commissioner identified several long-pending issues in the district—particularly those involving the Revenue Department, such as illegal sand mining, coastal erosion, title deed disputes, and 9/11 land concerns. He assured the public that efforts would be made to resolve these matters legally and systematically.
He also noted that Udupi is part of a sensitive ecological zone, making it unsuitable for unrestricted industrial expansion. However, he welcomed the interest shown by private entities willing to undertake CSR initiatives in the field of environmental conservation.
The DC emphasized the importance of balancing development with ecological responsibility, ensuring that Udupi’s natural heritage remains protected.
